Hey Robert, New member here, wondering if you have any tips to stop dogs retreating to their handler during play? My grandma recently got a 2y/o beagle/terrier rescue and when she plays with my 6m/o shepherd/husky puppy they always seem to end up right at her feet or in between her legs and I’m worried she will get knocked over or hurt. Any advice would be appreciated. Both dogs are female. Seems to be my dog who initiates travelling back to grandmas legs. Thanks from Saskatchewan

hi. love your advice. 7 mos old aussie puppy has started to pee by the door she would go out of to potty. she doesnt warn us she has to go out and has done this 1-2 hours after having peed. she can hold it all night in the crate. this is new in the last few weeks. no signs of bladder infection, etc. Not sure why she suddenly started doing this. Let me know what to do to stop this. Also, going to get a puzzle food dish to stimulate her brain more. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Robert, last Q&A someone asked about a puppy who growled when the owner would stop it from eating poop. You mentioned that the puppy should be corrected for that. In another question from a separate Q&A someone’s puppy growled when they would get it out of a crate. You said dont react to it since puppies try to get reactions from their owner. For my own understanding I was wondering if you could explain when growling should be corrected or ignored. Sorry if this takes too long to explain

13 wk Malinois has shown aggression (twice) when she is FOCUSED on something. I live on a big lot and allow her to play with our two yr old 1/2 GSD 1/2 bel Mal. They get along great–never an issue. Other day she was digging in flower bed–i walked over and went to remove her and she snapped/snarled at me. She did the same thing when she got into our other dog’s food bowl-our fault we left the door open. Should she always be on a leash outside? I feed her by hand with no problems. Thoughts?

4 yo 45 pound Shepard Mix. Shelter dog. First meeting, very curious treated while sitting in a chair and I left. Next meeting immediately goes into high drive play. Jumping, humping, biting (not breaking skin) and biting the leash. Took out on a long line for engagement training, could not get him to stop the behavior. No one else at the shelter will even try to walk him. Have ordered the 2.5 Herm Springer prong collar from your web site, although I have never used. Other advice?

Hello Robert, Just got my first Malinois and he is about 3-4months old. Been Training him with basic obedience like sit, down, stay, heel, although sometimes he just looks at me and does not do the command (well i know that he knows the command). I am only training him for 4-5 minutes 3 times a day. Any tips on how to get him hyped up because sometimes he gets slow and sloppy, although there are times that he has a good drive.

our 15weeksold malinois has no problem eating out of the bowl with hand in or or from the hand BUT if we leave him with something >3 minutes he growls and gets stiff if we get near, he doesnt´t snap, even lets us pet him but still growls. Sometimes he even gives us the treat or we switch it with sthg. We started just going by, ignore or give him sthg better-it works but needs time. Should we correct him more firmly when he growls or rather be patient and show him that when we´re near is good?

Hey Robert curious how you would correct a 6 month cocker spaniel when I try to eat meals. He jumps up on the table or guests during meals. Is it best to leave him out and correct him so he learns not to do this or put him in the crate. I’m not sure if I crate him that he will learn how to behave in this situation. Please advise thanks so much!!

What’s up Robert!! I live in a pretty big apartment complex with lots of grass, and lots of dogs. When crate training the new puppy is is best to take him out to do his deeds on concrete to avoid parvo other viruses etc. Or can he go on the plot of grass right in front of our place. Just any tips to survive the apartment life till he’s fully vaccinated would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Robert for taking the time to sit and answer these questions means a lot, keep getting after it!! Javi.

First off, thank you fir having so much valuable information for everyone. I know with puppies we set time limits on training. I do about 8-10 mins 4 times a day. But should I be playing with my 16 week GSD for certain amount of time as well. I don’t want to over stimulate her.
