My 3 month puppy is afraid of other dogs. From the distance it is ok, when they approach closer he barks, when they come to him he cries and hides between my legs. I try to desensitize him by spending time in park and watching dogs from the distance, and approaching them each time a bit closer and allowing some of them to come to him. But I am not sure if my approach is correct… i do not want him to become aggressive towards other dogs because of the fear when he is older..

What does humping indicate? and when is it important to correct? How? My 11 week old labrabull humps his bed and a specific stuffed toy sometimes after play, mostly before he settles down for bed. That doesn’t concern me as much as when he does it while playing or greeting my partner – his excitement drives him into humping her leg. Q: is this a dominance trait or natural drive? I’m wondering if it will subside once he is neutered. Thoughts, comments, concerns? Thank you so much Natalie

Hi Robert. Love the new website. I recently found 2 short videos you posted on YouTube – Competition Focus Heeling Part 1 Foundations (7.5 minutes) & Part 2 (8:18 minutes). Any chance you could expand on them with a new members’ lesson that covers these basics plus the next steps? That would be wonderful for the members with young dogs working towards AKC Obedience. The lessons I’ve seen in the members’ section seem to be applicable to refining the movement. Thx.

I have a 5 month old malinois. Every time she sees other dogs, she’ll lunge at them.( be aggressive) but the few times i’ve taken her to the dog park, she’s scared. She’ll stay around my wife & myself. She’s gotten close only a couple of times to other dogs her age. I have also taken her to my sister’s house, who has a very old pitt. And shes ok with him. Im not sure whats going on with her. Is she to young, or something wrong that i’m doing? Thank you. Really enjoy your videos.

Hello Robert, I just finished your entire “intro members” course where you discuss where to start with your dog, stay, recall, leave it, feeding from hand. Etc. I have a 2 year old shepherd, a mid size mutt, and another female German Shepherd. I also bought e collars, long lines, and martingale collars. So if I’m starting with recall, stay, and leave it. Which videos do I begin with? The e collar section or? Appreciate the help.

Our 16month 120lb bully, on rare occasions, jumps and play nips my boyfriend. Do large dogs mature slower? John will say NO and ask him to sit which makes his drive worse. I’ve ask him to let me help stop the behavior, I stay calm and recall or move him away to stop the jumping/biting. Does it make sense to use movement and obedience away from the trigger (John) in this situation? It seems to work well and I can put him in the crate or on his bed for a chill out period

11 week old Golden Retriever.Crate trained.Doing all the recommendations. On 2/6 took out 15 times over a 11 hr period. He actually did something 4X.He goes out lies down or sits looking around. This even occurs after meals.I have had 5 Goldens over the last 30 yrs who were easy to train but this guy has been a real pain.Spoke to breeder who told me that all the pups in this litter(12) were having the same difficulty.Any suggestions?

American Bully, 8 months old, keeps having “mouthing” episodes when over excited and sometimes out of nowhere..overall, listens well, knows commands and loving personality but, once every other day in middle of play she will”switch” on you and start mouthing…currently using the “time out” method to stop the behavior which it does but has not corrected it..Husband raised GS and tells me i need to be more physical..slap the snout…your thoughts?

Can you recommend brands and type of bark collars for my great Pyrenees …need to use in a car to stop his behavior while I drive. You mentioned three in the live pod cast but I cannot find my notes. There are an overwhelming number of these devices so I need recommendations from experienced hands, Thank You in advance.

is kinda difficult to prevent the pulling on a narrow street to keep him away from people and dogs.. do you think the tight leash (at times even if not too often) impacts the puppy in a negative way? we reward often when he comes/looks back to us but then he starts going forward and pulls a bit.. what do you suggest? Thanks a lot:)

Hi Robert, my 2yr old recently adopted dog has really good food drive and i’ve been able to train him with that. However he doesn’t seem to have a lot of play drive. sometimes he fetches a ball but only 2-3 times and then he loses interest. He similarly has no particular interest in toys/tugs. He will tug sometimes, if I really energize the tug and run around him with it and act goofy. Is there anything I can do to increase his play drive to a toy/ball, using his good food drive?

I have a 7 month spitz/maltese small dog. Before meals I give her some training sessions for about 5-10mins (I use hot dogs for treats) but Right after training I give her dog food, but doesn’t eat it.

I adopted a heeler mix 1 yr ago. Born 11/2018. No prior socializing or training. I’ve been watching/practicing all the videos on your site I can find. On walks he earns his meal 1 piece at a time, fed when he looks at me. 6 ft leash w prong collar. Pants, heavily growl, raises hackles tail & ears, at other dogs. I walk away, he comes, looks at me, takes a treat but immediately returns his attention to other dogs. Minimal improvement over the past year. Will he ever stop reacting/be calm on walks?

Just found out that our shelter dog Thor (who is out of control at biting the leash and me trying to get him out) is a working line Australian Kelpie. In a shelter environment, other than engagement training, and basic obedience what can I do to make him more adoptable? He does calm down now around me through the fence, but as soon as I enter, he starts the leaping and humping.

I live in Mn, temps are below freezing, plenty of snow on the ground——-my 7mos lab/cane corso sits, stays, walks on my left with treats…… we work in short spurts, 3 times a day……….my question is she loves to romp in our 50’x100’ fenced area….. she runs like a maniac, and will recall, but not consistently…… is it ok to let her “blow off steam” relatively unstructured, or does she need to be on a long lead ? She really loves the romp…
