What dog insurance do you recommend? Thanks for all you are doing!

Matthew

Hello Robert was playing tug with my 5 month old mal. However i stopped doing the tug game because there is a high chance that his tooth falls out when we play. Does this happen normally for his age? Or is it right to stop the tug game and just throw the ball as a reward instead. He is a toy driven puppy more than food actually.

I have a 1.5 yo standard poodle (A) who exhibits aggression towards other another standard poodle (B). They’ve been friends since puppies but a couple months ago they have been exhibiting aggression, and may fight when they get too close. We have tried keeping them on leash, crate/place-mat, ecollar to desensitize them and set boundaries but it doesn’t seem to work. B has a wagging tail and avoids A. A has a stiff tail and tries to confront B. What can we do to desensitize them?

When is a good time to start using an e-collar? My GSD/Mal mix just turned one. Overall his training is going very well. Our biggest issue is he does not like visitors coming to our house. I don’t blame him because with COVID we haven’t had any visitors. Would the E-Collar help with his territorial issues? The popping of the prong collar does nothing when he gets into the guard dog mode. Thanks you are the man!

I can get a shelter dog to give up his territory, food aggression, leash aggression, etc. But only to me. Is it a fool’s errand, and a waste of time if they are still problematic towards a potential adopter. Through your guidance I feel confident that these dogs are OK with me. Do I have an approach that is only correcting the behavior towards me, and not a general behavioral modification. Thanks . –Mike

Do you recommend a complete yearly check up on dogs. I have a dog that I got from a backyard breeder and i’m wondering if I should do a yearly check up because of bad genetics. He is a 2 year old German Shepard.

Hey Robert – What are your thoughts on how dogs react to other animals? My neighborhood has a lot of deer and foxes roaming around especially in the early mornings. My GSD/Mal mix is fine with squirrels but foxes really set him off. Should I correct him when he gets excited or is it just in his DNA?

Hi Robert, I hope you’re well . I wanted to ask if it’s okay to use the prong collar together with the long lead when on a walk on which he is allowed to go the length of the lead but then checking with me and also not to run up to any dogs i’m doing these walks because on other walks he can play with the ball and have fun but he gets very fixated on the ball ,so to mix it up I do the long lead walk thank you in advance

Hi Robert, I live with my 8 month old GSD and work from home. I walk/train/play with him for a minimum 50 min am and pm i need to put him in his crate to get ready. I say “in your bed” and he goes in, no issues. He never goes crazy but if he hears me coming to get something he will whine. I feel terrible. He never stays more than 3 hours in the crate but i need him to stay longer so i can work. Since I separated from my ex he only has me. I feel like a bad mom. How long a day does he need w/ me?

I have an 11 month old GSD, named Allie. Every time I go to grab her harness (wears only for a seat belt clip), leash & prong collar, she runs & hides on the far side of my bed. Then she starts breathing heavy, her nose drips horribly & her ears go flat. Once we get to the track, she seems to be nervous until about the second lap then she does really well. Does my dog hate walks? Am I traumatizing her by taking her? What can I do to have her react differently in the beginning?

My 4mth GSD (male) has a play friend the same age (female). They love to play with each other but after some play, the female gets a little aggressive: she barks and bites stronger. We separate the pups giving them time to cool down before we allow the play to continue. Is there something else we should do? My pup is taking breaks from play to calm down (he comes to me to check in), but the female is more hyperactive and running around all the time.

My 5 month old Groenendaeler gets aggressive and growls when we touch him when he eats something he really loves (like bones or fresh meat). When we first got him at 8 weeks we hand fed him his kibbles and had our hands in his bowl frequently without it ever being a problem. We hand feed fresh food as well without trouble, but the moment our hand goes away for a bit and comes back he gets aggressive. How can we correct this behavior? We try to go slow but see little progress.

Hi Robert, I am working on the three most important commands with my 10 week old Cane corso. I am having trouble with recall, she will not leave my side unless she’s distracted by something else. However these distractions are sometimes causing her to fail the recall. Are little failures okay? And what advice would you give on practicing recall without distractions, so that she succeeds more?
