Here are today’s Q&A…

Hi, follow up on previous question: 4mth GSD male plays with the same age female. She gets aggressive during play. We separate the pups so that they cool down before they are allowed to play again. You said that when a female continue to pursue my pup when he runs away she needs to be corrected. What kind of corrections would you suggest for her? Thanks, and thank you for your page and your videos 🙂

I am planning on buying the Garmin E collar that you suggest, from your site. I made the modification on my Dogtra collar but it’s beginning to slip on the strap when my Catahoula shakes his head. Any suggestions? The Dogtra seems larger and heavier than your Garmin. Thanks for all the content and help!

What’s the best way to overcome the difficulties associated with raising two littermates? I’m a dog trainer working with two Australian Shepherd littermates. Training them separately for three weeks each. So it will be a total of six weeks before I do any work with them together.

Can you do a breed profile on Labradors and Do you see yourself ever owning a Shar Pei again.

Hi Robert, On an off leash hike, I saw the owner of another dog but did not see his dog with him. Usually his dog wears a bell and is leashed. My intact 5 yr old Bernese mountain dog saw his dog before I did and ran after it to play in full drive. I held continuous and had to go all the way up on his e-collar to stop him and he jumped up and gave a few screams and came back to me. I gave him all the treats I had. I feel bad about having to use this high of a correction. Did I do right?

Hey Robert, love the info and approach. I adopted a 2 y/o rescue dobe 3 months ago. We’re getting on well with training and obedience, but he’s very cautious and fearful with visitors. He follows them around constantly, seems agitated and will retract if interacted with. I’ve been calm and suggested they give treats, toys etc., but doesn’t help. Thinking may be best to crate him and slowly allow him to interact over time if he stays calm. How to overcome this fear of visitors?

I’m new to being a member. I watched your lesson on reactivity with a young west German showline shepherd. The lesson was really helpful-thank you. I was really disappointed and surprised though, when you started commenting on the dog being showline and that for a showline that was as good as it gets?? I’ve seen both the WG showline and working line. Both can be awesome presentations of the GSD. Your comment sadly continues the trash talking from both sides. Both lines equally earn IPOs. Thank you

Hi Robert, do you have any suggestions on how to avoid bites on the end of the tug? My puppy is starting to tug pretty good, but when she wins, and runs towards me, she always adjusts the bite towards the end of the tug.

I have a 2yr old uncut male, calm, with me 24/7, been traveling in our RV his whole life, obedient & socialized.
We often visit off leash parks & trails but he just lost his off leash privilege due to him developing aggression to random dogs, he’s being possessive over their owners, he’s claiming the people as his. He knows I’m alpha so it only happens when he’s 20+ feet from me. I correct him firmly, leash & remove him from the park immediately. How do we train this out to earn his off leash again?

Hey Robert, your lessons are life saving for me. I never knew I was doing it all wrong (poor dog) – My 16 month old GSD just sits and whines at me – I’m a very structured person and we have a daily routine – Which is: Morning ball play – Afternoon Training – Late afternoon Training at the park or Home Depot etc. – Evening ball play – He is crated at bedtime – Why is he whining ? What I’m I doing wrong ?

Hello Robert my 7 month old spitz/maltese won’t eat her dog food anymore. She got used to table food already because my mom gives her table food most of the time while she eats her meal or goes for a snack and gives it to the puppy. Now the puppy wont eat her dog food anymore during her meals. Is it still possible to fix this issue?, or should I just give her table food instead because she knows table food is much more delicious than dog food now. My puppy looks slimmer now because of this.

I have a 10 week old Eurasier puppy. He has two modes – sleeping or batshit crazy. I had to move everything not nailed down out of the main floor. He destroys everything in sight. I have frozen kongs, educational toys, chew toys, etc. I started hand feeding, but moved more quickly to training based on his behavior. He’s a very quick learner. Every moment he is not sleeping, he has the ‘zoomies’ or is destroying something. He is crate trained for the night. What should I do?

Bella is 8.5 weeks Goldendoodle. Picked her up at 7 weeks. Breeder recommended we leave her in the crate for 1 hour/day, calm pet video on. Have been doing this but realized yesterday she screams the entire hour. Gets way too stressed, sometimes peeing even though she eliminates 1st. She does ok at night in the crate, in my room. I am planning to back off to a shorter duration, more frequent sessions. (15 minute, 4 times/day?)She whines in the crate when I’m in the room with her too. Would you gently correct this?

Hi Robert, I am failing in finding the right dog to play with my Cane corso (3 months). One scenario is that she is too rough and the other dog doesn’t want to play with her. The second is that she is scared and cries when the other dog wants to play the same way as she does in the first scenario (for now she played with small dogs). I socialize her also just by passing other dogs. Is it crucial for her to play with other dogs and how to approach it? Don’t want bad experiences for her. Thx
Have been doing this but realized yesterday she screams the entire hour.Robert Cabral

Hello Robert, My dog has itchy skin and he is constantly scratching and biting himself. I have already checked his fur and he doesn’t have any fleas or ticks. I am certain that this is a skin problem, what do you recommend I use to help with his itchy skin. He is on a balanced raw diet so the problem is not his diet.

My dog is super friendly, she loves all people and all dogs, she wants to greet everyone. I am attempting to train her to ignore other people and dogs and training her on a long line so that I can correct her when she tries to run over to strangers. I am having two problems: 1) people see my dog is wagging her tail etc and let their dogs come over – what should I do? 2) When my dog does recall, how do I get her to stay with me and not immediately try and run over again. Love your training videos!

Hi, Thanks for the lessons! I have a 10 month old GSD & when we let him out of his kennel. He starts jumping on me. He is a big dog and when he jumps on me he is eye level to me, he doesn’t hurt me. Been telling him sit but he doesn’t listen, I walk towards him & tell him off that doesn’t work. I think he gets excited & wants to play . How do I get him to go down when he jumps on me.

Hi Robert. My 1-year-old Rottweiler cross is a very good student when I’m training with him, but when we are not training, he will often not obey my commands. When I have him on a leash he listens perfectly (also in house), but off leash not. This is all about commands which he definitely knows, not anything new. I think his puberty is playing up. Would an e-collar be the solution here? Or would you recommend any other way to handle this?

Would you suggest giving anything to out 1 year old Mal mix for the upcoming long car ride/trip. It will take all day, we are planning on taking brakes every 2 hours. We are going on vacation and this is her first very long trip. She handles car rides very well, she is always super excited to go, but she is very active and doesn’t really settle down during the rides. Thank you for your help, Joanna

We cannot stop Jubilee (red Merle mini Australian Shepard) from devouring her poop. She is 3.5 months old. She also devours her food. Slowed that down with the puzzle bowls. We took her to the vet and put her on For-Bid. Though she is slightly better now she grabs it and wants to run around the house as if it’s a toy. Being in Montana we’ve had to train her with potty pads due to the cold. What else can we do re this. No pun intended.
