Happy Tuesday guys. Here’s today’s AMA Q&A!

I’ve been strict with my family about letting the dog play bite/be mouthy. However, we have a friend that likes to let the dog play bite with him. EVERY time he comes over I say to him to pls not let the dog play bite. But he ignores me. Should I just put the dog away in his crate when he’s around? Seems unfair to the dog.

Hey Robert, when my 15m old male gsd is walking with me, or is not training, he becomes a birdwatcher. Thanks to your training he’s reluctant to leave my side if not instructed to. But occasionally he finds a sexy bird and will start to walk towards it in a very interested, prey driven way. A recall will bring him back with ease. Should I layer in a correction for pursuing the birds or just continue the recall? I worry that he will learn that if he pursues a bird he will be called and rewarded.

A couple weeks ago, a member asked about what happened after the Bark n Bitches podcast. I too, continue to think about how that situation worked out. Can we get a follow up, please?

Tosca is a sweet natured dog but mainly inside the house. We have just acquired her. It’s hard to be more interesting than lakes, ducks, chickens etc. She goes mad outside. She’s also incredibly strong and pulls like mad. She does come back sometimes when called but she gets so distracted and she’s off… HELP!

Hi Robert I listened to your podcast with Ron and he mentioned he gave his dogs Nordic Naturals children’s DHA. I found this product on Amazon but it is flavored. I just want to make sure I have the right product. Thank you. Great interview, Luca my Rottweiler is feed visionary. Ron seems like a great man who cares deeply for dogs. Thank you God Bless You and your Pack

Hey Robert, my 8 month old mal pup has started becoming aggressive toward people. I noticed it getting worse when my apartment’s maintenance workers came in while he was home alone (crated). I left work early so I could watch him as they called and said he was freaking out and he started lunging at them on the leash and snarling and snapping. Since then he’s been lunging at my neighbors on leash while taking him to potty and play. I’ve been using firm leash pops but it’s not working, any advice?

Hey Robert, my 4 month GSD has pretty good focus inside/outside but sometimes when I try to get her to sit before crossing the road I cannot get her to look up and listen to the command. Pops on the collar and/or the word “No” does nothing. Tapping on her head seems to work. Any advice on getting the puppy to look up and sit when in such a static position with everything moving by?

Hey Robert, I am having some issues when out and about with my 4.5 month Golden. Whenever a stranger gets close enough or talks to me, my golden goes crazy and pulls to try to engage them. Standing still does nothing as he will pull hard enough to choke himself on his martingale. Treats or redirections also don’t work as he is focused on strangers. I’ve been looking into your prong collar videos but feel that it may be too much for such a young puppy. Could I get your thoughts on this?

My 6 month old Malinois is doing very well in his training. I would like to work on increasing the speed at which he executes commands. How can I do this?

I’m a longtime fan of your videos & posts, but a new member. I recently watched this video with behaviorists Sternberg & Savocchi on problems with aggression in shelter dogs/issues with no kill practices. I would love to hear any thoughts/insights you might have on what these two had to say, in particular about the future role of shelter workers in the community as perhaps advocates for stopping these extreme game dogs from being bred.

Robert – Big Fan! I have a 11 month old GSD/Malinois mix and he is a great dog! Our issue is he will not settle down outside of his crate. We can come back from a long run and he just can’t relax unless we put him in his crate and then he will go down. The crate is in the bedroom and if I leave the bedroom he will start to cry. Any advice? We do not want to be in the bedroom all the time and our house is not large enough where we can go somewhere and not hear his whining. Thanks!

Hi, I have a 10 months German Shepherd and I’m trying to figure out where to start training, with your training methods. We’ve had since 8 weeks and have been able to teach of basic commands without leash. He doesn’t like the leash. Your lessons are with leash. I have been following along with your lessons but confused to were to start. Can you please advise. Thanks!

Hey Robert, my 5 month old border collie puppy just recently started barking at people on walks. He has not shown this behavior before and I was wondering what’s the best way to head off this behavior before it becomes a habit? Thank you.

Hi Robert, I have a 8 month old doberman, I live in Bangkok Thailand and I would like to learn better ways to get engagement with my dog. The main problem I have is finding a quiet place outside my home to train him. While at home he is super engaged the moment I head outside it gets very hard to engage him even with his favorite toys. But I understand Bangkok is a busy place. Are there any routines you could recommend me to practice while on walks with him to get better engagement.
